ABSTRACT

Abstract Objective To explore the molecular mechanism of neuropathologic damage induced by radiofrequency ablation at different temperatures. Methods This is basic research, and 36 SD rats were used to construct the neuropathological injury model. The rats were subjected to radiofrequency stimulation at different temperatures and were divided into 6 groups according to the temperature injury: 42°, 47°, 52°, 57°, 62°, and 67°C groups. Conduction time, conduction distance, and nerve conduction velocity were recorded after temperature injury. HE-staining was used to observe the histopathological morphology of the sciatic nerve. The expression of SCN9A, SCN3B, and NFASC protein in sciatic nerve tissue were detected by western blot. Results With the increase in temperature, nerve conduction velocity gradually decreased, and neurons were damaged when the temperature was 67°C. HE-staining showed that the degrees of degeneration of neurons in rats at 47°, 52°, 57°, 62°, and 67°C were gradually increased. The expression of SCN9A, SCN3B protein in 57°, 62°, 67°C groups were much higher than that of NC, 42°, 47°, 52°C groups. However, the expression of NFASC protein in 57°, 62°, 67°C groups was much lower than that of the NC, 42°, 47°, 52°C groups. Conclusion There was a positive correlation between temperature caused by the radiofrequency stimulation to neuropathological damage. The mechanism is closely related to the expression of SCN9A, SCN3B, and NFASC protein in nerve tissue caused by heat transfer injury.

PTBP1, a widely-studied RNA binding protein, regulates mRNA splicing, translation, stability and localization. PTBP1 participates in a variety of ncRNA acting processes, affects tumorigenesis and tumor progression. In terms of tumor therapy, PTBP1 may act as a key factor to affect the target of targeted drugs and influence tumor resistance. This article reviews the role of PTBP1 in tumor and its research progress in tumor treatment.

ABSTRACT

Dental enamel biomimetic mineralization is a process to form the enamel-like mineral structures, which possess unique microstructure and exceptional physic-chemical properties, by mimicking the mechanism of natural enamel formation and biomineralization. Varieties of techniques such as molecular mimetic synthesis and molecular self-assembling were used to accomplish the microenvironment and molecular conditions similar to that of natural tooth enamel within human body. Early remineralization and biomineralization is the future of restoration for enamel defect, research on such products have huge potential in clinical applications, with speedy advancement in recent two decades. This review summarizes the major advances in researches on enamel biomimetic mineralization in recent years.

ABSTRACT

Streptococcus pneumoniae (Pneumococcus) is a kind of Gram-positive diplococcus with capsule, which is the main cause of morbidity and mortality of lower respiratory tract infection in the world. The death toll caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae is higher than that caused by Haemophilus influenzae type B, influenza virus and respiratory syncytial virus combined. In recent years, the infection rate and hospitalization rate of pneumococcal pneumonia have decreased with the vaccination of 7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV 7) and 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13). This article will briefly review the new progress in hospitalization rate,diagnosis and treatment of pneumococcal pneumonia in children at home and abroad in the past decade.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To evaluate the validity of psychological care combined with enhanced recovery after surgery (PC+ERAS) management in perioperative nursing care of andrological patients.@*METHODS@#A total of 300 male patients undergoing andrological surgery were included in this study, 150 given PC+ERAS and the other 150 receiving routine nursing care as controls. We evaluated anxiety and depression of all the patients on admission and discharge using Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), and compared post-operative hospital days, off-bed time, first passage of flatus, Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score and satisfaction with nursing care between the two groups of patients.@*RESULTS@#On discharge, significant improvement was observed in SAS and SDS scores in the PC+ERAS group compared with the baseline, even more significant than in the control group (P 0.05). The patients in the PC+ERAS group also achieved a significantly shorter post-operative hospital stay, earlier post-operative off-bed time and passage of flatus, lower VAS score, and higher satisfaction with nursing care than those in the control group (P < 0.05).@*CONCLUSIONS@#Psychological care combined with ERAS management deserves wide application in the perioperative nursing care of andrological patients, which can significantly improve the patients' anxiety and depression, shorten post-operative hospital stay, reduce VAS score, and increase their satisfaction with nursing care.

ABSTRACT

China has a long history of the international trade of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).And the export products mainly composed of Chinese herbal medicine and its extracts with Chinese patent herbal medicine and health care products as complementary items.The international trade of TCM faces problems of structural disequilibrium in export products and trade barriers.In this study,we used Michael Porter's diamond model to analyze the international competitiveness of TCM industry.We found that TCM industry in China was rich in production factors and broad in market demands,but lack of the related and supporting industries.In addition,compared with the herbal medicine manufacturers in European,American and Japanese,enterprises in China were weaker in the strategy making,market positioning and industry competing.The development of the international market of herbal medicine,the arrival of the aging society,and the introduced policies of the TCM,provide great opportunities for TCM industry' s development.In order to improve the competitiveness of the TCM industry,we propose to increase the international recognition of TCM by developing clinical study,cope with international trade barrier by strengthen international standardization research,and improve the competitiveness of TCM industry by economies of scale formed by the accumulation of the pharmaceutical industry.

ABSTRACT

Curcumin( Cur) is a natural active substance extracted from the roots or tubers of traditional Chinese medicinal materials. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor activities on brain diseases. Due to the poor stability,low solubility,poor absorption and low bioavailability of curcumin,N-acetyl-L-cysteine( NAC) was used as an absorption enhancer and mixed with curcumin to improve the absorption of curcumin in the body. In this paper,curcumin was smashed by airflow pulverization,and Cur-NAC mixtures were prepared by being grinded with liquid. Then,the raw material and the product were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry( DSC),X-ray diffraction( XRD) for structural characterization. The dissolution was determined by high performance liquid chromatography( HPLC) analysis. The characteristic peaks of the samples prepared by grinding method were similar to those of the raw materials,while the melting temperature and the accumulated dissolution degree were not significantly changed. The crystal forms of the products were not changed,and no new crystal form was formed after grinding. After the administration of intranasal powder,blood samples were collected from the orbit,while the whole brain tissues were removed from the skull and dissected into 10 anatomical regions. The concentrations of curcumin in these samples were determined by UPLC-MS/MS. The concentrations of curcumin in plasma and brain were compared at different time points. After intranasal administration of two drugs,it was found that the concentration of curcumin after sniffing up the mixtures in plasma was high,and the concentration of the drug in the olfactory bulb,hippocampus,and pons was increased significantly. Within 0. 083-0. 5 h,the olfactory bulb,piriform lobe and hippocampus remained high concentrations,the endodermis,striatum,hypothalamus and midbrain reached high concentrations within 1-3 h; and the cerebellum,pons and brain extension maintained relatively high concentrations within 3-7 h. The experiment showed that nasal administration of Cur-NAC mixtures can significantly improve the bioavailability of curcumin,and lead to significant differences in brain tissue distribution.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To analyze the clinical features of Sjogren syndrome (SS) patient by investigating the diagnosis and treatment of one SS patient and perform the review of relative literatures, and to improve the understanding of the clinicians for the rare clinical symptoms and imaging features of SS. Methods: The patient was a 23-year-old woman with dyspnea associated with cough and expectoration for 1 month, and went to the hospital after hemoptysis for 3 d. The physical examination results showed pale conjunctiva and there were no other obvious positive signs. The chest CT results showed there were multiple cystic changes in both lungs. Further bronchoscopic biopsy, labial gland biopsy and rheumatism examinations and other assistant examinations were performed. The patient received related treatment. Results: The patient was initially diagnosed as lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) and eventually diagnosed as SS by related examinations. The patient was treated with oral glucocorticoids and immunosuppressive agents. The symptoms of the patient were improved after treatment. The dyspnea was relieved, hemoptysis was not found, and the lung diffusion function was improved significantly. There were no significant changes in chest CT examination of the patient 2 months after treatment. Conclusion: There is rarely patients with hemoptysis and multiple cystic lesions in both lungs simultaneously among the SS patients, SS mainly occur in the women with childbearing age and it should be differentiated from LAM.

ABSTRACT

Ginseng is one of China's valuable Chinese herbal medicines, with a long using history. Ginseng has worldwide reputation, and widely used in food, medicine, health products, cosmetics and other production. China and South Korea have a big ginseng industrial, and sharing half of the export market. The ginseng export competitiveness analysis seems important and necessary between China and South Korea. In this paper, the data of customs and trade of ginseng in COMTRADE database were studied, and ginseng export competitiveness was analyzed between China and Korea. The results showed that the ginseng export competitiveness of Korean more competitive than China. Contrast with China, South Korea using only 15% total amount of ginseng exports and produced the same total export amount. This article has the reference value to the traditional Chinese medicine resources management and the economics research. On this basis, this paper further discusses the problems that should be paid attention to in the development of ginseng industry in China.

Objective:To investigate the effect of Bailing capsule on myocardial fibrosis in mice with viral myocarditis(VMC) and TGF-β1-MAPK/ERK pathway. Methods:Male BALB/c mice ( n=200 ) were randomly divided into model group ( n=180 ) and control group(n=20). The model group mice were infected with Coxsackie virus B3 to prepare VMC myocardial fibrosis. The control group mice were injected with Eagle′s MEM without virus. The model was successful after two months. The survival mice were randomly divided into model group and high,middle and low dose of Bailing capsule was administered consecutively for sixty days,once a day, Cardiac ultrasound was used to test LVEDd,LVEDs,then calculate FS. The expression of type Ⅰ collagen and type Ⅲ collagen in all the mice myocardial tissue was detected by immunohistochemical methods. Masson staining for myocardial fibrosis was used to calculate the collagen volume fraction( CVF) . Western blot was used to detect the protein expression of TGF-β1 and p-ERK1/2. Results:①Compared with the control group,the CVF,typeⅠcollagen and typeⅢcollagen obviously increased,LVEDd,LVEDs increased,FS de-creased,which had statistically significance(P<0. 05).②Compared with the control group,the model group of mice had a statistically significantly higher expression of TGF-β1 and p-ERK1/2(P<0. 05).③Compared with the model group,the expression of CVF,typeⅠcollagen and type Ⅲ collagen of high and middle dose of Bailing capsule was significantly lower,LVEDd,LVEDs decreased,while FS increased(P<0. 05).④Compared with the model group,the high dose of Bailing capsule group of mice had a statistically significantly lower expression of TGF-β1 and p-ERK1/2 ( P<0. 05 ) . Conclusion:①Bailing capsule can prevent myocardial fibrosis of mice with VMC.②The activation of TGF-β1-MAPK/ERK pathway may can promote myocardial fibrosis in VMC.③Bailing capsule could prevent myocardial fibrosis,which may be related to prevention of TGF-β1-MAPK/ERK pathway.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Five single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (rs4379368, rs10504861, rs10915437, rs12134493 and rs13208321) were recently identified in a Western population with migraine. These migraine-associated SNPs have not been evaluated in a Han Chinese population. This study investigated the associations of specific SNPs with migraine in a Han population. METHODS: This was a case-control study of Han Chinese residing in Fujian Province. Polymerase chain reaction—restriction-fragment-length polymorphism analysis and direct sequencing were used to characterize the relationships of SNPs in a control group of 200 subjects and in a migraine group of 201 patients. RESULTS: The frequencies of the five SNPs did not differ between patients with migraine and healthy non migraine controls. However, subgroup analysis indicated certain SNPs were more strongly associated with migraine with aura or migraine without aura than with controls. The CT genotype of rs4379368 was more common in migraine patients with aura (75%) than in migraine patients without aura (47.9%) and controls (48.5%) (p<0.05), and the TT genotype of rs10504861 was more common in migraine patients with aura than in controls (8.3% vs. 0.5%) (p<0.05). Meanwhile, the CC genotype of rs12134493 was less common in migraine patients without aura than in controls (80.6% vs. 88%) (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that the rs4379368 and rs10504861 SNPs are markers for susceptibility to migraine with aura and that rs12134493 is a marker for the risk of migraine without aura in this Han population. Future studies should further explore if these associations vary by ethnicity.

ABSTRACT

To study the data of the trade of the ginseng products in the UN COMTRADE database and analyze the overall situation of the international trade of the ginseng products. China, South Korea, Canada, and the United States are not only the market for the production of ginseng products, but also the main consumer markets for Ginseng products. Hong Kong, China is dominated by entrepot trade and is an important consumer market for ginseng products as well. The four countries mentioned above and Hong Kong, China, play a decisive role in the international trade of ginseng products. Using trade specialization coefficient (TSC), international market share (IMS), revealed comparative advantage (RCA), and competitive advantage (CA), the trade status of the Ginseng products in the four countries from 2007 to 2015 was studied, and the situation of its trade competitiveness was analyzed. The results showed that the average values of three indicators of international trade competitiveness of Canada were ranked the first with the absolute superiority except the mean value of TSC, which was slightly lower than that of South Korea. The average of TSC indicators of South Korea was ranked first, the means of RCA and CA were ranked the second in the world. As for China, the three indexes were all ranked the third except for IMS, ranked the second. However, the four indicators in the United States were all ranked in the last place.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate whether recuperating lung decoction (RLD) can modulate the composition of gut microbiota in rats during asthma treatment.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Fifteen Sprague-Dawley rats were divided randomly and equally into control group, model group, dexamethasone (DEX) group, RLD medium-dose group, and RLD high-dose group. The asthma model was established in all groups, except for the control group. The rats in the DEX and RLD groups were treated orally with DEX and RLD, respectively. The rats in the control and model groups were treated orally with 0.9% saline. The intestinal bacterial communities were compared among groups using 16S rRNA gene amplification and 454 pyrosequencing.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The microbial flora differed between the control and model groups, but the flora in the RLD groups was similar to that in the control group. No significant differences were observed between the RLD high-dose and medium-dose groups. RLD treatment resulted in an increase in the level beneficial bacteria in the gut, such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium spp.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Oral administration of RLD increased the number of intestinal lactic acid-producing bacteria, such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, in asthma model rats.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>Atopic dermatitis (AD) is an inflammatory skin disease characterized by chronic recurrent dermatitis with profound itching. Most patients have personal and/or family history of atopic diseases. Several criteria have been proposed for the diagnosis of AD. Although the clinical features of childhood AD have been widely studied, there has been less large-scale study on adult/adolescent AD. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical features of adult/adolescent patients with chronic symmetrical eczema/AD and to propose Chinese diagnostic criteria for adult/adolescent AD.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A hospital-based study was performed. Forty-two dermatological centers participated in this study. Adult and adolescent patients (12 years and over) with chronic symmetrical eczema or AD were included in this study. Questionnaires were completed by both patients and investigators. The valid questionnaires were analyzed using EpiData 3.1 and SPSS 17.0 software.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>A total of 2662 valid questionnaires were collected (1369 male and 1293 female). Of all 2662 patients, 2062 (77.5%) patients had the disease after 12 years old, while only 600 (22.5%) patients had the disease before 12 years old, suggesting late-onset eczema/AD is common. Two thousand one hundred and thirty-nine (80.4%) patients had the disease for more than 6 months. One thousand one hundred and forty-four (43.0%) patients had a personal and/or family history of atopic diseases. One thousand five hundred and forty-eight (58.2%) patients had an elevated total serum IgE and/or eosinophilia and/or positive allergen-specific IgE. Based on these clinical and laboratory features, we proposed Chinese criteria for adult/adolescent AD. Of all 2662 patients, 60.3% were satisfied with our criteria, while only 48.2% satisfied with Hanifin Rajka criteria and 32.7% satisfied with Williams criteria, suggesting a good sensitivity of our criteria in adult/adolescent AD patients.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Late-onset of eczema or AD is common. The clinical manifestations of AD are heterogeneous. We have proposed Chinese diagnostic criteria for adolescent and adult AD, which are simple and sensitive for diagnosis of adult/adolescent AD.</p>

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the major allergens in children with different allergic diseases, and to provide theoretical evidence for the clinical prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of allergic diseases in children.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Skin prick test (SPT) was conducted to detect allergens in 1179 allergic children. According to clinical diagnoses, patients were categorized into six groups: atopic dermatitis (n=140), allergic gastroenteritis (n=37), allergic conjunctivitis (n=77), asthma (n=285), allergic rhinitis (n=301) and allergic co-morbidity (n=329) groups.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Of the 1179 patients, 82.0% had positive SPT results; the most prevalent inhalant allergens were Dermatophagoides farinae (68.1%) and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (53.5%), while the most common food allergens were milk (5.0%) and eggs (4.8%). The proportions were 84.3% and 83.8% for patients under or equal to 3 years of age in the atopic dermatitis and allergic gastroenteritis groups, respectively. Patients over 4 years of age accounted for the majority of the other four groups. Food as major allergens were found in both atopic dermatitis and allergic gastroenteritis groups; eggs and Dermatophagoides farinae were the most common allergens for the former group, while eggs and milk for the latter group. Inhalant allergens were the major allergens in the allergic conjunctivitis, allergic rhinitis, asthma, and allergic co-morbidity groups, and the most prevalent allergens were Dermatophagoides farinae and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>There are differences in the distribution of age and allergen types in children with different allergic diseases. Atopic dermatitis and allergic gastroenteritis are prevalent in infants and young children, and food allergens are more common. Patients in allergic conjunctivitis, allergic rhinitis, asthma, and allergic co-morbidity groups are mostly children over 4 years of age, and inhalant allergens are more common.</p>

Kawasaki disease (KD). EMPs were enumerated by flow cytometry, while IL-6 and TNF-α were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. EMPs and IL-6 were elevated in KD, the level of TNF-α in KD was not different from disease controls, but higher than healthy controls. EMPs were positively correlated with TNF-α and negatively correlated with albumin. Elevated level of EMPs, a biomarker of endothelial cells damage, concomitant with increased levels of TNF-α and IL-6, is seen in patients with KD.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To evaluate the clinical efficacy of mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) in the treatment of systemic-onset juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SoJIA).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Thirty-five patients with a confirmed diagnosis of SoJIA who had received initial treatment were randomly divided into control (n=15), MMF1 (n=7) and MMF2 groups (n=13). The control group received conventional treatment, the MMF1 group received MMF after 2 weeks of conventional treatment that had not led to remission, and the MMF2 group received combination therapy with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, prednisone and MMF. Symptoms, signs, laboratory indices, and adverse events were observed after 2, 4, and 12 weeks of treatment, and follow-up was performed for 3-6 months.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Before treatment, the MMF2 group had a significantly longer disease course than the control group (P<0.05). After 2 weeks of treatment, the MMF1 and MMF2 groups had a significantly lower prednisone dose and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) than the control group (P<0.05). The MMF1 group had significantly higher body temperature than the other two groups (P<0.05). After 4 weeks of treatment, the MMF1 group had a significantly lower prednisone dose and ESR than the control group (P<0.05). The MMF2 group had a significantly lower prednisone dose, body temperature (recovery to normal), white blood cell count, ESR and serum ferritin concentration than the control group (P<0.05). Body temperature was significantly lower in the MMF2 group than in the MMF1 group (P<0.05). No adverse events were observed in either the MMF1 or MMF2 groups during treatment.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Combination therapy with MMF can lead to better control of the patient's condition, more rapid relief of clinical symptoms and reduced glucocorticoid dose. The therapy with MMF is safe in children.</p>

ABSTRACT

Background Treatment of corneal ulceration by transplanting drug-loaded amniotic membrane has been used widespreadly abroad,however,seldom study is found in China up to now.Objective This study was to explore the sustained release property and the efficacy of the drug-loaded amniotic membrane.Methods The bacteriostatic area of amniotic membrane fragments immersed with different concentrations (5,20,30 g/L) of levofloxacin for different time points (5,15,30,60 minutes) was evaluated by in vitro test.Bacterial corneal ulceration models were established in 20 rabbits by injected 0.7 MCF staphylococcus aureus suspension (0.1 ml) into the central corneal stroma to form the cloudy area of 4.0-6.0 mm.Then the rabbits were randomized into two groups.Regular amniotic membrane transplantation was performed laterally and 0.5% levofloxacin drops was topically administered after operation in the amnion+levofloxacin drops group,and drug-loading amnion transplantation was used in the drug-loading amnion group.Aqueous humor of 0.1 ml was collected in 30 minutes,1 hour,2,3.5,5.5 hours after levofloxacin was administered and 1 day,3,7,10,14,21 days after operation for the detect of levofloxacin level with high-performance liquid chromatography.The corneal symptom was scored based on McNeill's criteria in 1 week,2 weeks and 4 weeks and the ulceration area was assessed under the slit lamp in the first week.The pathological examination was carried out in the fourth week after surgery.Results The mean bacteriostatic area was bigger with the increase of levofloxacin concentration,and bacteriostatic area in amnion immersed for 15 minutes was bigger than that of 5 minutes (P<0.01).The levofloxacin concentration of aqueous humor after transplantation was decreased by extending the time,and that in 30 minutes and 5.5 hours after operation was (0.873±0.264) mg/L and (0.106±0.027) mg/L,respectively,in the amnion+levofloxacin drops group,and that in day 1,3,7 after surgery in the drug-loading amnion group was higher than at 30 minutes in the amnion+levofloxacin drops group,showing all significant differences (all P =0.00).In the first,second and fourth week after operation,the corneal symptom score was 1.7±0.6,1.3±0.5,0.2±0.4 in the drug-loading amnion group and 2.2±0.8,2.0±0.6,1.5±0.8 in the amnion+ levofloxacin drops group,with the significant differences among the different groups and time points (Fgroup =9.49,P =0.01 ;Ftime =22.96,P=0.01).The corneal ulceration area was (1.6±0.6) mm2 in the drug-loading amnion group and (3.2±0.8) mm2 in the amnion+levofloxacin drops group 1 week after operation,showing a significant difference between them (t =3.98,P =0.00).Histopathological revealed that the various layers of cornea tissue appeared irregular arrangement in the amnion + levofloxacin drops group 4 weeks after operation with 1-2 layers of new squamous epithelium.Disorder hypothallus structure,more inflammatory cells and residual vascular cavity were visible.However,new squamous epithelium of 4-5 layers was seen in the drug-loading amnion group,and inflammatory cells and residual vascular cavity were less than the amnion+levofloxacin drops group 4 weeks after operation.Conclusions Levofloxacin-loaded amniotic membrane can sustained release levofloxacin and maintain an effective drug concentration in aqueous humor,which improves the treating efficacy for staphylococcus aureus corneal ulceration.

ABSTRACT

Effects of female diet and age on offspring sex ratio of the solitary parasitoid Pachycrepoideus vindemmiae (Rondani) (Hymenoptera, Pteromalidae). Theories predict that females of parasitoid wasps would adjust the offspring sex ratio to environmental conditions in the oviposition patch, but the diet and age of females would also affect the sex ratio adjustment. Our focus was to test the effects of female diet and age on offspring sex ratio of the solitary parasitoid wasp, Pachycrepoideus vindemmiae (Rondani, 1875). Our results showed that females fed with honey had significantly less female biased offspring sex ratio than those fed only with water. Offspring sex ratio (male percentage) decreased with female age or female longevity at the beginning of oviposition but increased at the end. There should be a sperm limitation in P. vindemmiae females at the end of oviposition, and a higher frequency of unfertilized eggs were laid then. Females also laid more unfertilized eggs at the beginning of oviposition, which would be necessary to insure the mating among offspring. Male offspring developed faster and emerged earlier, which would also reduce the risk of virginity in offspring with female-biased sex ratio.


Efeitos da dieta e idade da fêmea em relação à prole e à razão sexual do parasitoide solitário Pachycrepoideus vindemmiae (Rondani) (Hymenoptera, Pteromalidae). As teorias predizem que as fêmeas parasitoides de vespas ajustam a relação razão sexual dos descendentes, de acordo com condições ambientais, em cada oviposição. Entretanto, a dieta e idade das fêmeas também podem afetar o ajuste da razão sexual. Nosso foco foi testar os efeitos da dieta e idade da fêmeas em relação a razão sexual da prole da vespa parasitoide Pachycrepoideus vindemmiae (Rondani, 1875). Nossos resultados mostraram que as fêmeas alimentadas com mel apresentaram uma razão sexual significativa menor de fêmeas, do que aquelas alimentadas apenas com água. A razão sexual (percentagem dos machos) diminuiu com a idade ou longevidade das fêmeas no início da oviposição, mas com aumento no final. Deve haver uma limitação de esperma nas fêmeas de P. vindemmiae no final da oviposição e uma maior frequência de posturas de ovos infertilizados. As fêmeas também fazem posturas de um número maior de ovos infertilizados no início da oviposição, que seria necessário para assegurar o acasalamento entre os descendentes. A prole masculina desenvolverá mais rapidamente e emergirá mais cedo, o que também reduziria o risco de virgindade da prole, com a tendenciosa proporção de razão sexual maior das fêmeas.
